Gates of Mombach
The district Mainz Mombach (Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany) is characterized by its u-shaped houses. As the town was historically threatened by the French, the standard form of gates lock of the courtyards to the street. Nowadays, almost every gate has a sign with the indication “Keep Clear” (“Keep it free”).
